DNS Management

VIA NET.WORKS USA is ready and willing to assist you with the DNS change from a previous platform to your new one. The DNS changes include both name servers and setup of any additional DNS records you may already have set up.

While setting up the account, you will want your DNS records set first.

Log into your control panel at "http://yourdomainname.com/manager/"

Once there, under the Domain Settings section, then select the DNS Records section.

The list of records here shows you the default record setup. At the top of the list above the table are the MX records. If you intend to use VIA NET.WORKS USA hosted email, simply do nothing. If you use your own mail server, there are two possible scenarios.

  1. Point your MX record to an IP address.
    • Delete the record called MAIL.
    • Edit the MX record and change it to mail.yourdomainname.com. (Note the dot at the end)
    • Create a new DNS record and make it an address record. Set the IP address to your external mail server.
  2. Point your MX record to another domain.
    • Edit the MX Record and simply change this to your external mail server. If your external mail server is an IP address, see option 1.

Changing Name servers: If VIA NET.WORKS USA did NOT register your domain when you purchased your website, please contact your Registrar and have your Name Servers changed to the following servers "ns4.vianetworks.net" and "ns5.vianetworks.net".

If you have questions, please contact Technical Support at either techsupport@vianetworks.net or 404-926-3620.

Testimonials

“I have searched long and hard for reliable and easy to use web hosting. Throughout the search, I have seen great deals, but bad customer service; great customer service, but the company always seemed to have trouble with their networks. There always seemed to be something that went wrong. Then I discovered Via Networks.”
