More About Our Company
Fetch for Macintosh
Type or cut & paste your help tPublishing with Fetch for Macintosh
Double Click on the Fetch icon to open the program.
In the Open Connection... box type the following information as shown in the diagram below.
Click on OK.
Host: The machine name you wish to connect to (NOTE: For this example, we used the host name
"yourdomain.net." YOU WILL USE YOUR DOMAIN NAME OR IP ADDRESS IN THE "HOST" FIELD ABOVE.
Do not enter "yourdomain.net" as shown above.)
User ID: Type your login ID
Password: Type your password. For security reasons, it will show up as bullets.
Directory: Specify exactly which directory you want to go to on the server.
Leave blank if you want to open the root directory.
NOTE: You cannot name a subdirectory the same name as your User ID when using Fetch. If you do so,
you will not be able to get into your root directory again - Fetch will always open up in the subdirectory
that has the same name as the User ID.
The screen will flash, then display a list of files and directories on the host system you are connected to.
If you are transferring files for your Web page, then scroll down to the directory and double-click files to open them.
To transfer a document from your Macintosh up to the server click on the Put File button.
Select the document you want to transfer from the list of files shown. To transfer a file from the server to the Macintosh
click on Get File and select the file you wish to transfer down to your Mac.
Click on OK and the file will be transferred. When the transfer is done, the file should now appear on the Fetch screen.
This means that the file has been transferred properly.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Text (HTML) files must have the Format set to Text
Graphics or other types of Binary Files must have the Format set to "Raw Data"
Create a bookmark to the server
If you are always uploading and downloading files to the same server, you may want to create a shortcut. A shortcut is
similar to a browser bookmark.
You can create a shortcut by going to the Customize menu and choosing New Shortcut.
A bookmark window will open up and allow you to type in all the information you type into a New Connection window.
The information will be saved, and you can access it directly from the New Connection window via a pulldown menu.
